I love training with Andy at Shape Up Fitness, he has got me stronger and fitter then I've ever been before. He makes the sessions fun and we train either outside in the park or at my house in St Albans. He brings all the equipment and works around the hours that I can do so I never miss a session.

I’ve trained with Andy for over 12 years. We trained for triathlons, marathons and recovery from prolapsed disks (and cracked ribs!) . We trained indoors (in garage ) outdoors (Verulamium park) and online (even from Cyprus!). In over 500 lessons each new session feels new! I can’t recommend him more highly. He cares deeply about the personal outcome of shaping up and balances the right level of stretch with sense while making it fun. Go shape up with shape up fitness !

I’ve been training with Andy while preparing for an Ironman 70.3 and it’s been a great experience. Everything is tailored to my specific goals rather than following a generic programme, which has made a huge difference in how consistent and confident I feel in my training. Sessions are well thought out, adaptable, and always focused on building endurance, strength, and efficiency for long-distance racing. Training in St Albans and at Hampstead Heath has been a big bonus too, great locations that are used really well to keep sessions varied and effective. Super knowledgeable, motivating, and easy to work with. I’d definitely recommend him to anyone training for an Ironman or looking for structured, results-driven coaching.

I have trained with Andy for over 5 years and he not only improved my fitness and strength but also my understanding of what my body needs to do to be its best. He has so much knowledge of all disciplines of training and fitness, and also nutrition and wellness. Our PT sessions have always been different and interesting. He makes sure I am challenging myself and my limits and is extremely supportive of all my goals, which can change! Whether you are looking to get fit and strong or just to keep mobile and healthy Andy is a fantastic trainer, he is also super convenient as he can come to your home and work around your schedule. I would highly recommend Andy as a Personal Trainer !!

I started my fitness journey with Andy. He helped me to really understand how to use weights, not to be scared of using them, and showed me different types of exercise that I hadn’t done before. He really made a difference to my health and wellbeing. He is very easy going and friendly and will listen to any worries you may have about your health. The sessions would either be outside when the weather permitted, go to my gym or he was able to come to my house with all of his kit. I would highly recommend him!

As a runner who wanted to build better all-round fitness, Andrew introduced me to different exercises in the gym. Not only did I get faster and stronger, but when injury later got in the way, it gave me the foundations I needed to return to strength training with more confidence. Andrew listens and understand different people's needs, and adapts the work, whilst pushing enough to make progress.

Andy from Shape Up Fitness is a fantastic PT. He’s certainly made me stronger, fitter, healthier and leaner but more than that, he’s introduced me to exercises that have helped my balance, coordination & flexibility. I can do pull ups now but I can also touch my toes! I think it helps that he has such a varied background (in disciplines like yoga, surfing, triathlons & martial arts), which also brings fun & variety to the sessions. There’s always something new each session, even though I’ve trained with him for many years. I really feel the sessions are tailored to me & my needs; I prefer to train outside and we’ve trained in different areas of Hampstead Heath, my back garden and when the weather has been really bad even inside! He’s a great training buddy and someone you’ll even want to go for an (alcohol free) beer with after your workout 😃 - Ben (Hampstead)

Andy is excellent! When I started my fitness journey I really struggled but training with Andy made me see results very quickly. I would highly recommend him as a personal trainer and have definitely seen the benefits of training with him.

Andy trained me for over 8 years. Firstly at Fitness First, then Westminster Lodge and latterly in St Albans Park. Over the years we worked on general fitness and strength both in our one-to-ones and also through a programme that I followed between sessions. We also worked on stamina and trained together for a 10k cross country race which he had organised. As a PT Andy is very flexible and uses a variety of techniques and exercises and so the sessions were never repetitive or boring. I can happily recommend Andy as a skilled and enthusiastic Personal Trainer. David Wilkie Jan 2026.
